The indie trio DMA’S have officially returned, marking a major milestone in their career by signing with a global major label.
The Australian outfit, celebrated for their sharp, 90s-inspired Britpop sensibility, is set to release their self-titled studio album this August. The project comes to fruition through a fresh global partnership between Wonderlick Entertainment, Sony Music Australia, and RCA UK.
Arriving on August 7, DMA’S serves as the band’s fifth full-length effort. The album features the jangly, upbeat track “My Baby’s Place” alongside their latest single, “Heatin Park,” which arrived this week accompanied by a vibrant new music video.
Crafted between the band’s home studio in Glebe, Sydney, and the creative hubs of Los Angeles, the new record is described as a refined evolution of their iconic, anthemic sound, layered with fresh sonic textures.
Bandmates Tommy O’Dell, Matt Mason, and Johnny Took spearheaded the production, collaborating with Grammy-nominated producer Lach Bostock (of Mansionair), with additional contributions from Styalz Fuego and Jimi Somewhere.
DMA’S have cemented themselves as a powerhouse in the music scene, boasting over half a billion streams and earning a Best Group ARIA Award in 2023. Their cultural footprint was further underscored by their viral “Like A Version” performance of Cher’s “Believe,” which topped the triple j Hottest 100 countdown last year. Historically, all four of their previous albums have debuted within the Top 10 of the ARIA charts.
While they remain Australian favorites, the U.K. has arguably become the band’s artistic heartbeat. Their two most recent records, How Many Dreams and The Glow, both secured Top 10 positions on the Official U.K. Albums Chart, with each successive release consistently outperforming the last in the region.
To celebrate the upcoming release, the band has scheduled an exclusive East Coast tour of Australia. The run kicks off November 27 at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall, moves to Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens on November 28, and concludes with a homecoming performance at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt on December 3.
Prior to their Australian dates, the group will head to the U.K. this summer for a series of special shows honoring the 10th anniversary of their breakout debut, Hills End.
