Disney Reveals First Look at Star Wars: Ahsoka Season 2 at D23

Three years after the debut of Dave Filoni’s Ahsoka, Disney shared a first look at the show’s second season during the annual D23 fan event in Anaheim, California. The live-action continuation of the 2014 animated series Star Wars: Rebels will return to Disney Plus on Jan. 20, 2027, resolving the cliffhanger that left former Jedi Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) stranded far from home.

The first season followed Ahsoka and her Mandalorian apprentice Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) across the cosmos to the distant planet Peridia. They traveled there to locate Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi), a Jedi who went missing in the finale of Rebels. Ezra had spent years stranded alongside Imperial Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen). Both characters escaped back to their home galaxy by the end of the season, allowing Ezra to reunite with General Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and warn her that Thrawn has returned to threaten the New Republic.

Ahsoka and Sabine remained behind on Peridia, where ancient forces await. Following the death of actor Ray Stevenson, who portrayed former Jedi Baylan Skoll in the first season, Game of Thrones alumnus Rory McCann has taken over the role. Skoll and his apprentice Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno) originally reached Peridia in league with Thrawn’s allies, but Skoll stayed behind to chase an enigmatic source of power.

The first season concluded with Skoll standing before massive carvings of the Mortis gods, cosmic figures that embody different aspects of the Force. Shin Hati took over a band of local raiders, while Ahsoka’s deep connection to the light-side entity known as the Daughter suggests she will need to embrace that bond to counter Skoll. Star Wars enjoyed a strong animated lineup in 2026 with Maul: Shadow Lord and The Ninth Jedi, but its live-action theatrical release, The Mandalorian and Grogu, met lukewarm reviews and struggled at the box office. Alongside the upcoming feature film Star Wars: Starfighter, which arrives on May 28, 2027, the return of Ahsoka will serve as an important gauge of fan appetite for big-budget live-action productions.
