Disney is Working on a Princess and the Frog Spin-off

Disney is developing a live-action spin-off centered on Tiana, the iconic heroine from “The Princess and the Frog,” according to Deadline.

Oscar nominee Colman Domingo, known for his roles in “Euphoria” and “Michael,” is set to co-write the screenplay. Released in 2009, “The Princess and the Frog” holds a special place in cinematic history as Disney’s final hand-drawn feature film, grossing $271 million worldwide against a $105 million production budget.

The original movie followed Tiana, a hardworking waitress living in 1920s New Orleans during the Jazz Age. After kissing Prince Naveen, who had been transformed into a frog by a curse, Tiana inadvertently turns into an amphibian herself, prompting a race against time to restore their human forms.

Specific details regarding the plot of the new spin-off remain under wraps. Previously, Disney+ had intended to release an animated series titled “Tiana” in 2023 as a direct sequel to the film, but that project was ultimately shelved.

Currently, the studio is actively working on a live-action remake of “Tangled,” even as the live-action “Moana” project faces significant hurdles at the global box office.
