Fans have voiced concerns about the developers’ creative direction.
Recently, Gothic fans noticed several alterations in the remake. For some reason, the well-known painting in Gomez’s throne room — which depicted nude women — has been removed.
Other female characters have been changed as well: revealing outfits have been replaced with more modest costumes.
That shift sparked outrage across the community, with players expressing their displeasure on the Gothic 1 Remake Steam forum and accusing the developers of censorship.
Some threads were closed, and now the community manager for Gothic, T‑Moor, has posted a response:
We’ve been reading all the comments online over the past few days. Thank you for your feedback! The team is actively discussing this matter. Throughout development, Alkimia Interactive has demonstrated — and continually proves — that the studio pays attention to the opinions of the series’ fans. One simple request: please keep the conversation constructive. Thank you!
Gothic 1 Remake is slated for release in Q1 2026 — you can add the game to your Steam wishlist via the following link: Steam.
