Developing for PS5 Is Easier Than for PC — Creator of Astro Bot

The creative director of Astro Bot discussed why console hardware can be superior to PCs for developers. He pointed out that the PS5’s fixed configuration lets teams fine-tune games and fully leverage platform-specific features — such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers — without having to design around potential future PC ports.

In the interview, Nicolas Duse highlighted a core advantage of the PS5 over PCs: hardware consistency. Essentially one standard setup — or two if you include the PS5 Pro — gives developers the ability to optimize the experience for every player.

“A defined piece of hardware that’s entirely configured. That lets us concentrate. That’s why I’ve always preferred consoles.”

He went on to say that, while PC configurations are less fragmented than they used to be, they still don’t offer the same degree of precise optimization. To his mind, the console model is appealing because it’s plug-and-play, and the PS5’s SSD and other capabilities remain impressive even five years after the platform’s debut.
