Escape From Tarkov Creator Unveils New Hardcore Sci-Fi Shooter

Fans of demanding tactical shooters may want to keep an eye on Fragmentary Order, a new sci-fi project from Escape from Tarkov game director Nikita Buyanov. Its first gameplay reveal brings a familiar focus on tense combat and careful preparation to a futuristic setting.

The 14-minute in-engine showcase introduces a vision of the solar system in 2251, when warfare has become an outsourced business. Rather than entering battle themselves, players control remotely operated clones sent into dangerous combat zones.

What is Fragmentary Order about?

Players take command of clones called RepEnts, deploying them on hazardous missions across expansive battlefields. Losing a clone doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the operation: in this world, death is a cost of doing business. Even so, surviving will require more than a willingness to absorb losses.

The game promises large environments, changing conditions, vehicles, drones, and advanced technology. Players can form squads of up to four, making communication and planning central to their chances of survival.

The reveal also shows looting, inventory management, weapon customization, and firefights that may feel familiar to Escape from Tarkov players. The comparison is easy to make, though Fragmentary Order trades its predecessor’s grounded environments for a vision of future warfare.

Buyanov says the team aims to create a world that players will return to for years, rather than a game built around individual matches. He hopes the project will remain engaging a decade from now, as Escape from Tarkov has.

Prime Batch testing tiers

Alongside the gameplay reveal, Buyanov announced Prime Batch, a paid closed-testing program for players who want to take part in the game’s development. Two tiers are available:

  • Candidate — $44.99: Access to alpha sessions and major technical playtests, a Candidate ranking designation, and an exclusive in-game package.
  • Founder — $79.99: Everything in the Candidate tier, plus earlier access to experimental builds, visibility into the roadmap, a Founder package, and access to a private community with direct developer access.

The first closed alpha wave is planned for later this year and will be covered by a nondisclosure agreement. A full release date for Fragmentary Order has not been confirmed.
