Detroit Investigating Incident at Ed Sheeran Concert That Left 6 Workers Hospitalized

Six workers were rushed to the hospital after suffering injuries during load-out following Ed Sheeran’s recent concert in Detroit, and the incident is currently under investigation.

According to the Detroit Free Press, The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration confirmed Monday (Aug. 31) that it was looking into the events of two days prior. The injured crew members were reportedly struck by falling equipment in and around the Ford Field vehicle tunnel.

The city’s fire department stated to Billboard that first responders arrived at the venue late at night to provide triage support for multiple injuries.

Six adults were transported to the hospital, the fire department continued. Two were taken by Superior Ambulance, which was already on site staffing the event, while four were transported by Detroit EMS. None of the injuries appear to be life-threatening. Two patients were in serious condition and four were in stable condition at the time of transport.

Billboard reached out to representatives for Sheeran, who has not publicly commented on the incident.

Ford Field thanked the fire department and EMS for their rapid response in a statement, adding that they will not speculate on the cause out of respect for the people involved and the integrity of the review.

Sheeran performed in Detroit on Aug. 29 as part of his ongoing Loop Tour, which began in January and concludes in November following additional United States dates and a Latin American leg.

The British pop star released his most recent full-length album, Play, in September of last year. It debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the U.K. albums chart.
