While the industry’s gaze is fixed on the upcoming extraction shooter Marathon, Bungie remains deeply committed to the evolution of Destiny 2. Alongside the announcement of the Guardian Games, scheduled to commence on March 24, the latest This Week in Destiny update unveiled a striking new creative alliance. However, the Destiny 2 x Magic: The Gathering fusion isn’t exactly the specific crossover I had envisioned.
“Bungie is joining forces with Magic: The Gathering for a unique collaboration, introducing armor sets inspired by legendary Planeswalkers and a suite of Exotic cosmetics that pay homage to both universes,” the developer stated.
Titans will receive the Flamecaller Set, modeled after the volatile pyromancer Chandra Nalaar. It is a visually arresting design, successfully capturing her signature goggles and incandescent hair. For Hunters, the Mindsculptor Set draws from Jace Beleren, a pivotal figure in Magic lore who appears poised for a villainous turn in the upcoming Reality Fracture expansion this October. Lastly, Warlocks can embrace their darker side with the Death’s Majesty Set, a tribute to the iconic necromancer Liliana Vess.

Beyond the armor, the collaboration features several high-tier items: the Promised End Exotic Ghost shell (inspired by the eldritch horror Emrakul), the Grand Praetor Exotic ship, and the Voice of Hunter 7/6 Exotic sparrow—a nod to the Phyrexian Vorinclex. Players can also acquire a finisher based on the legendary Overrun spell, a Sol Ring Exotic emote, a “Spark ignition” emote, and a specialized shader pack representing Magic’s five core colors.
While the emotes haven’t been fully showcased yet, the prospect of an Eldrazi-themed Ghost is particularly enticing. Furthermore, the land-based shaders offer incredible customization potential; the “Golden Plain” shader, for instance, gives the Hunter a look strikingly similar to Marvel’s Moon Knight. It’s only a matter of time before the Tower is filled with immaculate superhero homages.
For fans who inhabit both the world of the Traveler and the Multiverse, this is an excellent addition. However, the true dream remains a crossover in the opposite direction: a Destiny-themed Secret Lair featuring unique Magic cards. While Destiny leans more into science-fantasy than traditional high fantasy, the Universes Beyond initiative has already proven its versatility with Fallout and the upcoming Star Trek set. Given the inherent “space magic” of Destiny, it feels like a natural fit for the tabletop. Perhaps this current partnership is merely the precursor to something even more ambitious.
The Magic: The Gathering cosmetic collection will debut in Destiny 2’s Eververse Store on March 24.
