‘Defenders of the Great Bastion’ Set Coming to Great Cathay in Warhammer: The Old World

Reinforcements are coming to Grand Cathay in the tabletop game Warhammer: The Old World. Later this year players will be able to obtain a miniature set containing Astromancers, an unusual familiar, ranged troops and peasant levies. There’s also a chance to pick up the arcane journal “Breach of the Grand Bastion.”

Games Workshop hasn’t forgotten Warhammer: The Old World. During the World Championships Warhammer Preview Live! 2025 event it revealed the “Defenders of the Grand Bastion” boxed set, which should be a welcome addition for fans of Grand Cathay.

This set includes 53 finely detailed miniatures. Specifically, the force gains two powerful Astromancers (one on foot and one mounted), accompanied by a strange raven-like familiar.

You’ll also be able to field eight crane-archers equipped with tower shields, twelve gunners wielding “Ironstorm” heavy large-caliber musketoons, and thirty peasants armed with bows and spears.

Additionally, the team will publish a 48-page arcane journal titled “Breach of the Grand Bastion.” It features in-depth profiles of the units above, lore vignettes and expanded background on Grand Cathay, a timeline of the Age of Dragons, descriptions of the domains held by the Celestial Dragon Emperor, and more.
