One of the most highly anticipated slasher icons is finally carving his way into Dead by Daylight. During their 10th-anniversary livestream this Saturday, developer Behaviour Interactive confirmed that Jason Voorhees, the infamous centerpiece of the Friday the 13th franchise, will officially join the game’s roster of playable Killers.
Mark your calendars: Jason is slated to arrive in Dead by Daylight on June 16.
This addition marks a significant milestone for Behaviour and a long-awaited victory for horror enthusiasts who enjoy asymmetrical multiplayer survival games. Jason previously headlined his own title, 2017’s Friday the 13th: The Game, which faced an unfortunate decline when its servers were shuttered in 2020, followed by its complete delisting in 2023. While prolonged legal disputes over the character’s rights hindered his presence in the gaming world for years, the recent launch of the “Jason Universe” project has paved the way for a resurgence. This initiative is already spearheading new media, including A24’s upcoming Crystal Lake television series, alongside high-profile cameos in titles like Call of Duty and Fortnite, not to mention his recent appearance in the promotional short film Sweet Revenge.
Throughout his storied history, Jason has also made legendary guest appearances in various fighting games, most notably within the rosters of MultiVersus and Mortal Kombat X.
With the inclusion of Jason, Behaviour Interactive has effectively rounded out its collection of horror cinema’s most iconic slashers. He joins a formidable lineup of legends, including Chucky, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Ghostface, Leatherface, and Pinhead (though the latter is currently unavailable for purchase in the store).
Looking ahead, the question remains: who is left to join the fog? A handful of modern and classic icons still loom as potential candidates for future updates, with names like Candyman, Terrifier’s Art the Clown, and Phantasm’s Tall Man frequently appearing on the community’s wishlist.
For now, players can prepare themselves for the arrival of horror’s ultimate titan. Stay tuned for further updates regarding this content drop for Dead by Daylight, which is available across all major platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and mobile devices.
