Data of “Most Expensive Game” Fans Leaked: Star Citizen Developers Admit Breach After Six-Week Delay
Cloud Imperium Games targeted in sophisticated cyberattack.
The developers behind the ambitious space simulator Star Citizen have disclosed a security breach involving a “systematic and sophisticated” hacker intrusion. This data leak allegedly occurred in early 2026, forcing the studio into a high-alert defensive posture.
Although the breach originally took place in late January, Cloud Imperium Games has only recently acknowledged the severity of the situation. According to official statements from the studio, the unauthorized access resulted in the compromise of “limited personal user data.”
The Star Citizen team is currently “maintaining rigorous oversight of the situation” as it evolves. Despite the intrusion, the studio maintains that the incident does not pose a critical threat to the overall security of its user base.
Following an internal review of the exploit, Cloud Imperium Games is implementing enhanced security protocols and preventative measures to safeguard their infrastructure against future vulnerabilities.
