“Dark Shadows” to Get an Adult Animated Series

The iconic gothic saga Dark Shadows is set for yet another revival, this time as an adult-oriented animated series. The project was officially announced at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, where Warner Bros. Animation unveiled its plans to expand the storied franchise.

Currently in development, this fresh adaptation promises a modern reimagining of the classic tale surrounding the Collins family and their ominous ancestral estate, Collinwood. According to the studio, the series will retain the core hallmarks of the original—its heavy gothic atmosphere, supernatural occurrences, and deep-seated family curses—while tailoring the narrative for a mature audience.

At the heart of the story remains Barnabas Collins, a character cemented in television history as a pioneering “anti-hero.” Creators of the project note that he was a definitive figure in shaping the contemporary archetype of the screen vampire.

The project has already secured its creative lead: Lisa Holdsworth will serve as both showrunner and executive producer. At this stage, a release date and distribution platform have yet to be determined.
