Dark fantasy monster battler Fear Tall Grass announced for PC and consoles
Entalto Publishing and developer Forgotten Bastions have revealed Fear Tall Grass, a dark fantasy roguelite monster battler that combines strategic planning with creature-based combat. The game is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
Set in a world overrun by the Vilekin—malevolent creatures that have brought civilization to the brink of ruin—Fear Tall Grass puts players in the role of Gray, the last steward of the Oathguard. To protect what remains of humanity, Gray must venture into the dangerous tall grass to tame these creatures and turn them against the encroaching darkness.
Loop-Based Roguelike Combat
The gameplay features a unique blend of autobattler depth and the fast pace of a loop-based roguelike. Movement across the map is dictated by a 2-dice roll system, where every step forward can shift the board and present new challenges. After each victory, players can convert the land to gain temporary buffs, while the Sanctuary of Light offers permanent upgrades to aid in future runs.
Strategic team building is essential to survival. Players must manage Command Points to trigger manual abilities from the backline, turning the tide of automated battles. With over 100 unique Vilekin to collect across six elemental paths—Hydro, Pyro, Nature, Physical, Volt, and Rock—the possibilities for team composition and progression are vast.
A Legacy of Duty
Beyond the tactical combat, Fear Tall Grass tells an epic story of family and duty, following Gray’s personal struggle with his father’s legacy and his burden as the world’s last line of defense. The game promises a dark yet whimsical atmosphere, brought to life through a hand-crafted visual identity.
