Danny McBride to Direct New G.I. Joe Film

Danny McBride is preparing to pivot from his career as a comedic auteur to take the reins of a major action blockbuster. According to industry reports, the mastermind behind several acclaimed comedy series is set to write and direct the latest entry in the G.I. Joe franchise.

This project marks a significant milestone as McBride’s feature film directorial debut of this magnitude. While he has primarily built his reputation on comedic ventures, his previous work is notable for its blend of absurdist humor, sharp satire, and unexpected dramatic depth.

For months, Paramount Pictures weighed two competing scripts—one from McBride and another from Max Landis—before ultimately selecting McBride’s vision. The film is currently in pre-production, with principal photography slated to commence later this year.

While plot specifics remain under wraps, reports suggest that Bradley Cooper is being eyed for the lead role. The story is expected to revisit the high-stakes exploits of the elite G.I. Joe military unit as they engage in a fresh confrontation with the nefarious Cobra organization.
