Dan Stevens Hopes to Retain Cruelty and Satire of Original RoboCop

Dan Stevens aims to keep the uncompromising violence and satire of Paul Verhoeven’s original film in the upcoming series adaptation.

Dan Stevens, who was cast as Alex Murphy in the RoboCop series for Prime Video, shared which traits of the original film he wants to preserve in the new version. The actor called Paul Verhoeven’s movie one of his favorites and highlighted the combination of extreme violence and satire:

“For me and a lot of my friends, it was a cult film, perhaps one of our first encounters with both extreme violence and satire at the same time. Those are the elements I’m hoping to preserve the most.”

The series is being developed by Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video. Peter Ocko, who worked on Lodge 49, Pushing Daisies, and The Office, will serve as showrunner, writer, and executive producer.

Production will be handled by Blumhouse Atomic Monster with participation from James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett. Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner, writers of the original 1987 RoboCop, have also joined the project as executive producers.

A premiere date for the series has not yet been announced.
