Even just 24 episodes into Critical Role’s latest actual play Dungeons & Dragons saga, the series has already delivered a barrage of mind-bending revelations. Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has crafted a world in Aramán defined by deep, evocative history, and with every installment, fans uncover fresh fragments of an intricate lore they are desperate to piece together.
While the constraints of a single broadcast limit how much background can be explored, the monthly Lore Keeper’s Ledger—a members-only benefit for Beacon subscribers curated by Dani Carr and Jared Deiro—has shed critical light on the narrative. We finally have a clearer picture of the campaign’s deities, known as The Shapers, along with a formalized timeline of the dramatic events that have unfolded to date. Most importantly, these insights offer compelling clues about what lies on the horizon.
[Ed. note: The following contains spoilers for episodes 1–24 of Critical Role Campaign 4.]
Image: Critical RoleFirst and foremost, the Ledger has resolved long-standing questions regarding The Shapers, providing us with their formal names, divine domains, and their specific lineage within the mortal races of Aramán.
While eagle-eyed viewers may have deduced these connections over time, we now have definitive confirmation of the divine hierarchy:
- Sylandri: The Green Mother, Goddess of Life, and Shaper of Elves
- Tansul: The Bright, God of the Sun, and Shaper of Humans
- Trozhna: The Skilled, Goddess of the Forge, and Shaper of Dwarves
- Ilumi: The Weaver, Goddess of the Moon, and Shaper of Gnomes
- Rauwyn: The Trickster, Goddess of Luck, and Shaper of Halflings
- Azgra: The Conqueror, God of War, and Shaper of Orcs
- Omra: The Hunter, God of the Wilds, and Awakener of the Beastfolk
Omra, the most recently identified Shaper, was officially brought into the spotlight in episode 24, “Good Tidings.” Notably, unlike his siblings who are credited with creating their respective races, Omra’s role was fundamentally different: he is the Awakener, having roused the Beastfolk—such as Teor Pridesire, the paladin portrayed by Travis Willingham—from a primitive, unthinking state into sapience.
Image: Critical RoleSeventy-one years have passed since the conclusion of the Shapers’ War—a cataclysm sparked when the orcs, wielding the formidable Pariah Blades, rose up against Azgra. When the other gods intervened to protect their sibling, it sowed seeds of distrust, leading mortals to believe the deities were prioritizing their own survival over their followers. This ignited a widespread rebellion that culminated in the total destruction of Aramán’s pantheon.
While humanity gained its autonomy, the void left by the gods resulted in devastating consequences. The deities’ celestial servants were driven to madness, facing either eradication or imprisonment. Furthermore, with the death of the psychopomps tasked with guiding souls to the afterlife, spirits have been left in a state of purgatory, contributing to a surge in undead threats roaming the world. Arcane power has also been severely diminished, and locations where the gods perished have been transformed into “Barrowdells”—harrowing, warped regions plagued by phenomena like perpetual tempests and unending darkness.
Despite their eradication, the legacy of the Shapers remains deeply embedded in culture. During the Archanade’s gala, held in honor of Halandil Fang’s (Liam O’Brien) upcoming performance, guests donned masks depicting the fallen deities. Ironically, these masks provided a veil of anonymity that hampered the Schemers’ efforts to identify their foes.
This ambiguity proved particularly dangerous as “Good Tidings” delivered a high-stakes cliffhanger: King Augustus of Timmony sits on the precipice of an assassination, and the Schemers are racing against the clock to intervene.
Image: Critical RoleWhatever the result of the gala, the Schemers will likely not have to face the fallout alone. Thanks to the updated timeline provided by the Ledger, we finally have a concrete understanding of how the various adventuring parties’ arcs intersect. Remarkably, only 10 days have elapsed since the execution of Thjazi Fang—the pivotal event that kicked off the campaign back on October 2, 2025.
Following that, three days later, the Schemers laid Thjazi to rest, while the Seekers were deep in the Kavrosi Mountains and the Soldiers sought refuge in the whimsical sanctuary of Hawthorn’s Glade. Now, with the gala underway, reports suggest that both the Soldiers and Seekers are converging back on the city.
From the outset of Campaign 4, the sheer size of the 13-member cast necessitated splitting into three distinct groups: the Soldiers, the Seekers, and the Schemers. However, with these disparate paths now reuniting, it is becoming increasingly evident that major, world-altering events are imminent—threats that will demand the unified power of the entire cast to confront.
Episode 25 of Critical Role Campaign 4 premieres this Thursday night at 10 p.m. PDT on Twitch, YouTube, and Beacon.tv.
