Crimson Desert Sandbox Scale: 6 Hours to Cross the Map

Pearl Abyss is pushing the boundaries of open-world scale with its upcoming title. Head of PR Will Powers recently stated that the map in Crimson Desert is at least twice as large as that of Skyrim and surpasses Red Dead Redemption 2 in total landmass.

According to the studio, traveling across the map from one end to the other takes roughly six hours on foot and two hours on horseback. For perspective, while Skyrim encompasses approximately 37 km², Crimson Desert is projected to span between 74 and 110 km².

The world is segmented into five distinct regions, each featuring unique biomes, cultures, and a wealth of discoverable activities. Exploration stands as a core gameplay pillar, with players traversing the terrain via mounts, gliders, and a fast-travel system that activates once a destination has been reached manually.

Additional technical details confirm an immense level of content: the game will feature 29 types of mounts, 401 species of wildlife and monsters, 76 bosses, 110 different factions, and 467 unique NPCs. Everything points toward a deeply immersive and long-lasting gameplay experience.
