Cinematographer of “Harry Potter” series describes “tough” filming conditions for child actors

Balancing a demanding production schedule with academic responsibilities has proven difficult for the young stars of the upcoming Harry Potter series. Cinematographer Adriano Goldman shed light on the intense work environment during a recent discussion about the HBO production:

You are forced to work at a breakneck pace, and inevitably, speed can compromise quality. While we have substantial resources, the workload is intense—especially for the children. This requires a very specific methodology. We have to pre-plan almost every scene to accommodate their schooling, which makes for a challenging workflow where sequences are rarely filmed in chronological order.

To support the young cast members, including Dominic McLaughlin (Harry Potter), Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger), and Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley), a temporary school was established on set in 2025, ensuring that their education remains a priority alongside their acting duties.

The debut season of the Harry Potter series, which adapts “The Philosopher’s Stone,” is slated for release on December 25 of this year. The show has already been greenlit for a second season, with production scheduled to commence this autumn.
