With the premiere of Christopher Nolan’s latest feature, “The Odyssey,” only weeks away, industry analysts remain divided on the film’s projected opening weekend performance. According to Deadline, current estimates suggest a North American debut ranging between $80 million and $100 million.

Despite the palpable anticipation—particularly for 70mm IMAX screenings—forecasting the box office trajectory for this project has proven challenging. Nolan’s films are historically notoriously difficult to predict, frequently defying early projections and ultimately outperforming initial expectations by significant margins.

A notable case in point is “Oppenheimer,” which was initially tracking for a $40–50 million opening. Bolstered by widespread critical acclaim and the viral “Barbenheimer” phenomenon, the film ultimately secured a robust $82 million debut, cementing its status as one of the definitive box office triumphs of 2023.
