Renowned director Christopher Nolan is already turning his attention to future creative endeavors, with a horror film potentially on the horizon.

During a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Nolan was asked if he would consider venturing into the horror genre, particularly given the stylized, unsettling sequences featured in his latest film, Oppenheimer. He confirmed that he is open to the idea, citing Parker Finn’s Smile as a standout example of effective genre filmmaking.

It definitely whets my appetite for exploring that space further. However, I’ve always maintained that horror requires a truly exceptional conceptual foundation. You need a brilliant, singular idea to anchor the narrative, much like Smile had. For me, it isn’t about the technical hurdles I might face, but rather the strength of the story. That is why I am always on the lookout for the right concept,

— Nolan remarked. The director has previously voiced his admiration for Smile and suggested that audiences might have to wait at least three years before his next project hits the big screen.

Oppenheimer premiered in theaters last week and has already grossed over $280 million worldwide.
