Christian Bale Wishes the Creators of the New “American Psycho” Good Luck

Christian Bale has weighed in on the development of a brand-new cinematic adaptation of American Psycho.

In 2000, Bale delivered a career-defining performance as the homicidal Patrick Bateman in the film based on Bret Easton Ellis’s seminal novel. Reflecting on the prospect of a fresh take on the story, the actor described the undertaking as “brave” and offered his well wishes to the production team.

“To anyone looking to take a crack at it—I wish them nothing but the best. I had a wonderful experience working with [director] Mary Harron all those years ago; I truly cherish those memories. It’s a daring move for anyone to step into that world… Whether it’s a direct remake or something else entirely, I applaud the ambition. I’ve always had an affinity for people who take risks,” Bale remarked during a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter.

The upcoming iteration is being developed by Lionsgate, with director Luca Guadagnino (Suspiria) and screenwriter Scott Z. Burns (Contagion) at the helm. While rumors have circulated regarding Austin Butler potentially taking on the lead role, his casting remains unconfirmed.

Meanwhile, Bale’s latest project, the horror-tinged feature The Bride!, is set to arrive in theaters this week.
