Cher is paying tribute to Bob Mackie following his death at age 87 alongside other superstars who wore his designs over the years.

In a Monday, Sept. 14, post on X, Cher wrote that her dear Bob had gone up to heaven.

“Knowing him, he’s bringing Sequins, Beads, & his sketch pad,” she wrote. “Good nite sweet Prince.”

News of Mackie’s death was shared via a post on his Instagram profile, which stated that Mr. Bob Mackie passed away that day.

“He lived his 87 years to the fullest, fulfilling his dream of being a Fashion and Costume Designer, which is all he ever wanted to do,” the post read. “His genius and extraordinary designs will live on forever, continuing to bring beauty into this world.”

According to the Associated Press, Mackie’s publicist confirmed that his cause of death was pneumonia.

Mackie worked with Cher in a long-running partnership, and his designs were also modeled by Madonna, Carol Burnett, Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Zendaya, Miley Cyrus, and Taylor Swift. Sabrina Carpenter, who wore his pieces for several performances, shared the death announcement on her Instagram Story and wrote that she was terribly devastated.

“I feel so lucky to have met Bob,” the singer of Manchild continued. “His one of a kind creations have inspired and brought so much happiness and confidence to my world and they will continue to always x Mackie girl forever.”

Pink, who wore Mackie’s designs for shows and red carpets, wrote on Instagram that she was gutted to learn that one of her heroes had passed on.

“Bob Mackie, the one and only, the legend,” she wrote. “I was so lucky to be dressed by him for so long. He was loving, wickedly funny and an absolute genius. He was one of one. He will be dearly missed and my heart goes out to Joe, and his entire family and all of his loved ones. There are going to be some fabulously dressed angels.”
