Carly Rae Jepsen was once approached to write a song for the hockey romance series Heated Rivalry.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter ahead of her upcoming double album Day and Night, Jepsen shared that she was asked to contribute a track to the first season of Heated Rivalry. The collaboration did not happen because the series lacked the budget for it.

Jepsen has not ruled out joining the show’s soundtrack in the future. She said writing a song for the second season would be a “dream,” although she has not yet heard from series creator Jacob Tierney about the possibility.

“It was an incredible show,” Jepsen told THR of the hockey romance that aired on HBO Max in the U.S.

While discussing the show, Jepsen revealed that her first child, a son welcomed earlier this year with husband Cole M.G.N., is named Ilya, matching the character played by Connor Storrie in Heated Rivalry.

“Ilya is the name of my son. Maybe, not maybe because of that show,” Jepsen teased.

Tierney previously shared that he wanted Jepsen to write an original song for the first season, but production could not make the collaboration work financially. With Heated Rivalry returning for a second season, Jepsen appears ready to make it happen.

Fans can soon listen to Jepsen’s latest project, Day and Night, which arrives on Sept. 18. The double album splits into two contrasting halves, with the Day side leaning into psychedelic pop and the Night side embracing synth-heavy electropop, following her career since “Call Me Maybe,” her first entry onto the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2012.
