It appears the next generation of Xbox hardware could debut with a double dose of Call of Duty.
Reliable industry insider TheGhostOfHope recently shared insights from sources suggesting that a shift in the next-gen Xbox timeline has significantly disrupted the long-term marketing strategy for the Call of Duty franchise.
To navigate these scheduling hurdles, Activision is reportedly considering a bold move: launching two distinct Call of Duty titles alongside the new console. This would include a traditional multiplayer-focused entry and a dedicated, standalone Zombies game, which is rumored to be in development at Treyarch.
Reports indicate that Microsoft is encouraging Activision to become more versatile and reduce its historical dependence on a strict annual release cycle:
The community has responded with mixed emotions, with some fans already jokingly dreading the prospect of being asked to pay “upwards of $140 for the full Call of Duty experience.”
The insider suggested that the release model might mirror the strategy used for Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare Remastered, which were bundled together at launch. However, these plans are not yet finalized and remain subject to change.
