Deadline has revealed the sum Lionsgate and other studios intend to invest in producing two installments of Mel Gibson’s ‘Resurrection of Christ’.
The sequel to ‘The Passion of the Christ’ is expected to cost $200 million in total (approximately $100 million per film). Both parts will be filmed in English. Shooting is currently underway in Rome.
The narrative will follow Jesus Christ’s descent into hell after his crucifixion. The leading roles in the continuation are being played by Jaakko Ohtonen (‘The Last Kingdom’) and Mariela Garriga (‘Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning’) — they step in for Jim Caviezel and Monica Bellucci.
Lionsgate plans to release ‘Resurrection of Christ’ theatrically in spring 2027.
