The production costs for Amazon MGM’s Project Hail Mary have reportedly reached $200 million, excluding marketing expenses. These financial details were recently brought to light by Puck.
While the initial gross budget was estimated at $248 million, tax incentives and rebates helped reduce the final expenditure. Early box office projections suggest the film could secure a $50 million opening during its first week in the domestic market.
The film stars Ryan Gosling and is based on the acclaimed sci-fi novel by Andy Weir, the author of The Martian. The plot follows a schoolteacher who finds himself tasked with a mission of cosmic proportions to prevent a global apocalypse.
Directorial duties were handled by the creative partnership of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse). Project Hail Mary is scheduled for a wide theatrical release on March 20.
