Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have shared new insights into what audiences can anticipate from the franchise’s fourth installment.
The filmmaking duo characterized the project as “stunning, terrifying, massive in scale, and absolutely electrifying.” Original stars Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are officially set to reprise their iconic roles. Universal Pictures has scheduled the sequel for a theatrical debut on May 19, 2028.
“I don’t believe Brendan and Rachel would commit to this project unless the screenplay truly resonated with them—and based on their reactions, they seem genuinely thrilled with the material. It’s a compelling script, and it’s going to be a blast to film,” Gillett remarked.
The original *The Mummy* first captivated audiences in 1999, following a group of explorers who inadvertently awakened an ancient evil in the Egyptian desert. Separately, a new *Mummy* reboot directed by *Evil Dead Rise* filmmaker Lee Cronin is slated for release this April.
