Blood of Dawnwalker’s Huge Update Is Finally Here, and the Complete Changelog Is Wild

Barely a month after announcing a major post-launch patch for The Blood of Dawnwalker, developer Rebel Wolves has pushed update 1.1 live. This overhaul of the vampire RPG adds new features and system refinements. It also adds the one feature players care about most: you can now pet animals.

Rebel Wolves had said update 1.1 would arrive this week, but it hadn’t given an exact date. The studio then released it this morning without any warning. The update is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. Earlier announcements named several highlights: a new difficulty setting, the ability to pet cats and dogs, and an option to reset abilities. Those are only part of what the patch contains.

The complete patch notes run for page after page. Rebel Wolves says they list more than 1,100 changes. The notes are split into these sections: new features, miscellaneous, general, gameplay, quests, narrative, art, audio, plugin, and stability. I won’t cover every entry, but a few are worth highlighting:

  • A new “Buyback” option appears when you trade with merchants.
  • Boar patrols no longer become immortal and charge at Coen after he uses Voracious Bite on other animals.
  • Beehives can no longer be exploited as a source of infinite money.
  • Targeting has been improved, including locking onto enemies and disengaging from them.

The most notable omission from the notes is New Game Plus, a feature fans have repeatedly requested. Rebel Wolves is considering it, but there is no firm word on whether it will come to The Blood of Dawnwalker or when.

Will there be a Blood of Dawnwalker 2?

Rebel Wolves has said it plans Coen’s story as a series that continues past the first game. The studio is already recruiting additional talent for the next chapter, which would place Coen in a different era. A post-credits scene shows that Coen survives into the modern day. That leaves plenty of room for adventures between then and now.

One of the game’s most divisive features may not return in future entries. The RPG uses a time mechanic that caps how much players can accomplish before the final boss. It pushes players to give up on completionism, which some enjoy and others dislike. Rebel Wolves isn’t committed to the system and says it won’t force it into every game if it doesn’t suit the story.
