Bloober Team Believes Horror Games Are Growing More Popular Amid Global Crises
Bloober Team aims to create a horror franchise on the level of Silent Hill and Resident Evil.
CEO Piotr Babieno believes horror becomes especially popular when the world faces serious problems. In his view, wars, climate change and economic difficulties heighten public fears, making horror movies, books and video games resonate more with audiences.
Babieno, whose studio is working on a remake of the original Silent Hill, discussed the genre in an interview with IGN.
I would say that horror is always at the height of its popularity when something bad is happening in the world. When we face climate change, wars or economic problems. It is at times like these that a certain fear emerges in society. That is why horror movies, novels and video games work so well. But I am not happy about it, because that kind of popularity always means that something is wrong in the world.

Babieno also discussed the studio’s approach to horror development. He said the team has specialized in the genre since the release of Layers of Fear in 2016. The developers try to listen to audiences, consider criticism and use player feedback to improve their projects.
Babieno said the studio constantly analyzes its mistakes and considers whether each new game will be a step forward for both the team and its fans. Otherwise, the developers do not want to spend four years making a project that offers nothing fundamentally new.
He also reflected on Bloober Team’s journey from the mixed response to its early games to its collaboration with Konami and work on the Silent Hill 2 remake. He said the team decided to focus on the quality of its projects and stop paying attention to outside noise and criticism.
Silent Hill 2 was a turning point for Bloober Team.
The studio is continuing work on the remake of the first Silent Hill. Project H, a new game from the team behind Cronos: The New Dawn, is also in development. The project is in the final stage of pre-production, however, so it will likely be some time before a full reveal.
Babieno describes Project H as a major step forward from the studio’s previous games. The developers intend to retain the recognizable features of their approach while presenting them in a completely new format. He said players can expect a fresh experience that will still feel familiar to Bloober Team fans.
In the long term, the studio hopes to take a more prominent place in the horror industry. Babieno suggested that Bloober Team could eventually create a third major horror intellectual property alongside established series such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill.
