The spirit of Blackout, the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 pioneer that paved the way for the Warzone era, is set to return. A brand-new experience titled Black Ops Royale is arriving in Warzone late next week, offering a gameplay loop heavily influenced by the franchise’s first foray into the battle royale genre.

“This is a back-to-basics, Blackout-inspired battle royale that strips away modern staples like loadouts, buy stations, and the Gulag,” the official summary explains. Players will utilize wingsuits to deploy, scavenge for high-tier weapon rarities, and navigate “cradle breaches” while attempting to outmaneuver 24 rival squads across the sprawling Avalon landscape.

The action takes place on Avalon, the massive environment featured in the roguelike-inspired Endgame mode from Black Ops 7. Developers have clarified that while this isn’t a direct remake of the original Blackout map, it is a specialized experience designed to honor its legacy while refining the flow for the contemporary Warzone player base.

By removing the safety net of loadouts and buy stations, the mode emphasizes survivalist looting and the return of the iconic wingsuit. At launch, the playlist will be limited to Quads, pitting 25 teams against one another. Without a Gulag, fallen soldiers must rely on redeploy tokens for an instant return to the fight, or depend on surviving teammates to bring them back via redeploy towers located throughout the map.

Black Ops Royale officially joins the Warzone ecosystem at 12 a.m. (midnight) on Friday, March 13. For those seeking a comprehensive look at the new arsenal, vehicles, and tactical perks, the official blog offers an extensive deep dive into the upcoming mechanics.
