Beyoncé Pledges $1 Million to Colombia Earthquake Relief Efforts

Global music icon Beyoncé has pledged $1 million toward urgent humanitarian relief operations in Colombia, according to an official announcement issued Tuesday by Parkwood Entertainment. The financial aid is earmarked to supply crucial sustenance, emergency shelter, and essential provisions directly to the communities most acutely devastated by the 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck near San José del Palmar, Chocó, on August 10.

The intense seismic event triggered widespread destruction across the region, toppling residential structures, severing vital roadway networks, and compounding severe food shortages in vulnerable sectors. Addressing the crisis, Parkwood and the award-winning superstar urged the international community to bolster on-the-ground interventions by donating to frontline relief organizations, notably Food For The Poor and World Central Kitchen.

Beyoncé’s philanthropic commitment aligns with a broader surge of disaster relief spearheaded by prominent Latin music figures. During Sunday’s Colombia: Voces por la Vida benefit concert in Bogotá, Karol G announced a $1.2 million contribution through her Con Cora Foundation. That single fundraising event—which featured collaborative sets from over 30 acclaimed acts, including Maluma, Grupo Niche, and Eladio Carrión—successfully generated more than 11 billion Colombian pesos (approximately $3.6 million USD) for displaced families.

Simultaneously, Shakira has aligned with Global Citizen, Live Nation, and the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) to establish an initial $1.25 million rehabilitation fund dedicated to restoring destroyed schools throughout Chocó. That educational restoration effort will be spearheaded on the ground by Shakira’s Pies Descalzos Foundation.

These relief contributions converge with a massive cross-sector coalition dubbed Marea Viva por el Chocó del Mañana. Orchestrated by Progresa Chocó, Fundación Mi Sangre, Fundación Bancolombia, and Grupo Argos, the collaborative mission unites prominent cultural and athletic figures—including Juanes, James Rodríguez, Mariana Pajón, Rigoberto Urán, David Ospina, Néstor Lorenzo, Manuel Medrano, Goyo, Jhon Arias, Juan Luis Guerra, Alejandro Sanz, Nicky Jam, and Altafulla—to ensure sustainable long-term recovery for the battered province.
