Ben Stiller to direct Knicks series for HBO

Actor, director, and longtime New York Knicks devotee Ben Stiller has officially announced he is spearheading a multi-part documentary series centered on the storied basketball franchise. The project is a collaboration between A24 and HBO, produced with the full cooperation of both the NBA and the Knicks organization.

Stiller shared details about the endeavor while appearing on the “Roommates Show” podcast, hosted by Knicks players Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart. According to the filmmaker, the series aims to transcend a simple recap of the 2026 championship season, instead offering a comprehensive narrative that spans the team’s entire legacy—from the iconic title-winning rosters of the 1970s to their modern-day resurgence.

Stiller revealed that he began capturing footage for the documentary well before the playoffs commenced, explaining why he was frequently spotted recording on his phone from the sidelines during games. These candid moments will be integrated into the final cut, with filming scheduled to continue throughout the 2026–2027 season.

While the series has yet to receive an official title or a confirmed episode count, Stiller described it as a “dream project,” emphasizing that he has been granted unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to the team and its inner circle.

This production marks the latest creative partnership between Stiller, HBO, and A24. Although a premiere date has not been set, the production team anticipates that the project will remain in development for at least another year.
