“Behind the Scenes of Reality” Grosses 500 Million Rubles
Kane Parsons’ atmospheric horror film, The Backrooms, has officially surpassed 500 million rubles at the Russian box office, according to distributor Volga. The film, which features performances by Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve, has also enjoyed significant international success, raking in approximately $272.6 million worldwide.
With a modest production budget of $11 million, the feature-length debut exploring the unsettling concept of liminal spaces has proven to be a massive financial triumph, grossing over twenty times its initial investment.
The narrative is rooted in the viral “creepypasta” phenomenon revolving around eerie, abandoned office landscapes rumored to be inhabited by monstrous entities. Kane Parsons, a key visionary behind the original internet mythos, has been developing the project since 2023, following the release of his acclaimed short film set in the same universe back in 2022.
