“Behind the Scenes of Reality” Becomes A24’s Highest-Grossing Film

The horror film “The Backrooms” has achieved a staggering $212.6 million at the global box office, officially becoming the most successful release in the history of the independent studio A24.

Previously, the record was held by “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” which grossed $191 million. Produced on a modest $10 million budget, “The Backrooms” performed exceptionally well, earning $135 million domestically in the U.S. and an additional $77.6 million internationally. The film also saw a strong debut in Russia, pulling in over 180 million rubles during its opening weekend.

The narrative centers on a surreal, liminal office-like dimension. The story follows Clark (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a furniture salesman who finds himself trapped in this otherworldly realm, prompting a rescue mission led by therapist Mary (Renate Reinsve). The film marks the impressive directorial debut of 20-year-old filmmaker Kane Parsons.
