Director Peter Berg (Battleship) and Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan are teaming up to develop a cinematic adaptation of the Call of Duty video game series, media outlets report.
Berg is attached to direct and will co-author the screenplay with Sheridan. The duo previously collaborated on Hell or High Water and Wind River.
Story details and a release date have not been disclosed. Paramount Pictures will release the film internationally. Initial reports about turning Call of Duty into a movie first surfaced in 2015. Paramount and Activision, the game’s publisher, finalized a new agreement in September.
Call of Duty launched in 2003 and has since grown into one of the largest gaming franchises, reportedly selling around half a million copies worldwide. Early entries were set during World War II; later installments have taken place in present-day, futuristic, and space settings, among others.
