Season 5

Boots on the Ground: Two Launch Maps in the Desert

These battlegrounds deliver the ultimate all-out warfare experience, set within dynamic, multi-layered environments meticulously engineered to test every playstyle. Expect seamless tactical pacing that shifts fluidly from ferocious, close-quarters infantry skirmishes through intricate indoor complexes and vertiginous vantage points, all the way to massive, combined-arms clashes. Whether you are pushing forward through tense room-to-room firefights or coordinating across sprawling terrain under contested skies choked with aerial and heavy armor threats, your squad must adapt instantly to survive. Stay tuned for upcoming deep-dive briefings as we break down these combat arenas in greater detail soon.

Gameplay Enhancements

Combat Mechanics & Balancing

Season 5 introduces a comprehensive suite of balance passes spanning weaponry, specialist classes, combat vehicles, and anti-armor toolsets. Our primary objective is to forge distinct, unmistakable roles for every class gadget, optimize the delicate power balance between infantry and heavy armor, and fine-tune weapon ballistics across distinct engagement ranges.

There is plenty more on the horizon that we aren’t discussing today. We will return shortly with the full official reveal, detailing even more content slated for deployment throughout the season.

In the meantime, let’s examine the core gameplay tweaks and quality-of-life upgrades launching on day one of Season 5.

Vehicle Overhauls

We are continuing to refine the dynamic between heavy armor and anti-vehicle countermeasures in Season 5, implementing adjustments designed to establish crystal-clear strengths and vulnerabilities for both sides of the engagement.

Armored platforms are receiving targeted adjustments to health regeneration mechanics, directional damage multipliers, and critical hit zones. This makes battlefield positioning and precise targeting more vital than ever. Anti-air capabilities are also being amplified, featuring performance enhancements to Mobile and Stationary AA batteries, alongside adjustments to Scout Helicopter rockets and their respective ammunition replenishment timers.

Additionally, we are streamlining vehicle loadouts to give specific armaments and munitions clearly defined tactical purposes, complemented by upgrades to aim-guided missiles and anti-armor utilities like the M15 AV Mine and the PTKM-1R. Aerial vehicle resupplies will henceforth be handled on a per-vehicle basis, accompanied by crucial visual clarity improvements when firing High-Velocity Shells.

Collectively, these adjustments aim to foster more reliable vehicle combat while ensuring that tactical positioning, loadout customization, and counter-tactics yield meaningful rewards.

REDSEC Updates

Season 5 brings pivotal shifts to our REDSEC playlists, headlined by the introduction of Rapid Royale Solos, refreshed mode rotations, and overarching performance enhancements to the Battle Royale experience.

Furthermore, the mysterious Phantom Program within REDSEC will remain active well beyond the conclusion of Season 4, giving you and your squad ample time to conquer its grueling trials.

Rapid Royale Makes Its Debut

At the launch of Season 5, Rapid Royale Trios and Solos will integrate directly into REDSEC, offering a high-octane, accelerated iteration of the classic Battle Royale formula.

Engineered to thrust you straight into the thick of the fight, Rapid Royale delivers a condensed survival experience centered around blistering matches and relentless skirmishes. Many of you may already recognize core elements of this mode from testing phases in Battlefield Labs, where invaluable community telemetry helped us evaluate and polish the experience ahead of its official Season 5 release.

With Rapid Royale joining the active roster, we are simultaneously reconfiguring the initial playlist lineup. We will publish precise details closer to launch day.

Matchmaking & Playlist Evolution

To give Rapid Royale Solos and Trios the strongest possible foundation, we are streamlining active matchmaking parameters. A healthy player ecosystem, consistently full lobbies, and swift queue times are paramount to delivering this faster-paced experience successfully.

Consequently, the current automatic rotation between Battle Royale Solos and Duos will conclude at season launch. We fully recognize that Duos is a fundamental way many of you experience REDSEC, and we are actively scheduling the return of Battle Royale Duos later in Season 5.

Soon, we will outline our long-term roadmap for REDSEC playlist rotations. Our intended direction involves alternating between Rapid Royale Solos and Battle Royale Duos, though we will continuously monitor matchmaking data and community sentiment before locking in those final parameters.

Gauntlet Status & Playlist Philosophy

We have thoroughly enjoyed watching the community dive into Gauntlet and battle through its unique, round-based format since the inception of REDSEC. We remain immensely proud of what the development team accomplished with Gauntlet and the distinct brand of competitive intensity it brought to the franchise.

At the same time, transparency is vital: Gauntlet currently accounts for a much smaller fraction of overall REDSEC engagement. This disparity can occasionally lead to matchmaking friction and delayed lobby filling, particularly in lower-population or geographically isolated regions.

Beginning in Season 5, we are prioritizing Rapid Royale Solos by cycling Gauntlet out of the active playlist rotation.

This calculated decision empowers us to maintain healthier matchmaking health, reliably populated squads, and minimal wait times across REDSEC. While Gauntlet is stepping down from the active rotation for now, the door remains wide open for its eventual return as we continue tracking how players interact with REDSEC and adapting our playlists to suit the health of the community.

This philosophy governs our broader approach to matchmaking and rotation management. As we’ve emphasized previously, maintaining an excessive number of simultaneous playlists fractures the player base across too many fragmented queues, degrading match quality and inflating wait times. Our ultimate goal is to strike an ideal balance between gameplay variety and streamlined matchmaking that gets you into the action faster.

Battle Royale Gameplay Refinements

Beyond playlist adjustments, we are deploying a series of crucial refinements to the core Battle Royale experience in Season 5.

Class Training Paths for Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon are undergoing rebalancing to sharpen each specialist’s distinct utility within a squad. This includes enhanced passive traits centered around survivability, armor efficiency, revive speeds, tactical spotting, and anti-vehicle specialization. Additionally, armor-plating deployment speeds will be increased by 20% across all classes.

The Battle Royale loot ecosystem is expanding as well, introducing a wider variety of tactical gadgets hidden within Police Vans, Ambulances, and Class Crates, providing squads with dynamic survival tools as matches progress.

Finally, Reconnect functionality is finally coming to REDSEC! If you experience an unfortunate disconnection, you can now seamlessly rejoin an active match and rally back with your squad.

Please note that we have also recently adjusted Ranked matchmaking brackets to more accurately group players within their intended competitive tiers. While this change is already live, we wanted to highlight it for anyone who may have missed the memo.

Weapon Ballistics & Balance

We are implementing notable adjustments regarding how individual weapon categories perform against armored targets in Battle Royale, particularly across specific engagement distances. Personal Defense Weapons (PDWs), Carbines, Assault Rifles, and Light Machine Guns (LMGs) will now demand one additional bullet to neutralize armored opponents at designated ranges, further accentuating the operational niches where each weapon class excels. Designated Marksman Rifles (DMRs) are also receiving dedicated tuning—including specific balance passes for the M39 EMR and SVDM—alongside optimized ammunition capacities for both DMRs and Sniper Rifles.

Furthermore, we are revising the default starting loadouts for several classes. Engineers will now deploy equipped with the Repair Tool and M136 AT; Support operators carry the Supply Pouch and Deployable Cover; and Recon specialists deploy with the T-UGS and Mobile Jammer. Additional specialized hardware is simultaneously being integrated into the general loot pool, expanding your tactical customization options mid-match.

Portal Enhancements

Season 5 continues to push the boundaries of what creators can design within Portal, unlocking brand-new geographic spaces, fresh environmental assets, and unprecedented creative freedom.

Both newly introduced desert maps will join the Portal suite right at launch, aquatic environmental support is expanding across a wider array of REDSEC and multiplayer environments, and the iconic Crashed Carrier is officially joining the builder’s toolkit as a premier Point of Interest (POI) to construct around.

Whether you are designing experiences set against blistering desert dunes, neon-lit urban strips, or out on the open ocean, Season 5 provides exponentially more canvas space to bring your vision to life.

Two New Maps

Both fresh arenas will be accessible to creators as Verified Portal Experiences at the launch of Season 5, with full support for custom-authored experiences deploying later in the season lifecycle.

Diving Deeper: Water Support in Portal

We are massively expanding water mechanics and environmental support across numerous Portal maps, granting creators the tools to build intricate maritime and amphibious scenarios.

Starting in Season 5, water sandbox capabilities will extend far beyond Ocean Sandbox, officially integrating into standard Sandbox maps and every single REDSEC arena—including Complex 3, Defense Nexus, Redline Storage, Area 22B, Marina District, Downtown, Golf Course, and USS Grant.

In subsequent updates, we plan to roll out comprehensive water support across multiple core Battlefield 6 multiplayer maps.

This represents another monumental stride toward giving creators maximum flexibility when choosing the spatial dynamics of their custom Portal experiences.

The Crashed Carrier POI Arrives in Portal

The Crashed Carrier—a massive U.S. Navy aircraft carrier grounded off the coast of Fort Lyndon—established an entirely new high-stakes POI for Battle Royale, and it is officially coming to Portal starting in Season 5.

Drop straight onto the decks of this colossal wreck to contest a high-value combat arena loaded with significantly rarer, higher-tier loot compared to standard map POIs.
