Avengers Secret Wars Filming Reportedly Delayed

The sequel to Avengers: Doomsday might miss its original release schedule. Multiple MCU insiders including Daniel Richtman, Alex P., and Apocalyptic Horseman report that principal photography for Avengers: Secret Wars has moved from October 2026 to January 2027. Richtman initially stated that filming shifted to November before pushing further to January, a timeline that both Alex P. and Apocalyptic Horseman confirmed. Disney has not issued an official statement, but the adjustment creates another hurdle for the Avengers sequel.

Avengers: Secret Wars originally targeted a mid-2026 production start before Disney adjusted the schedule to August and later months in 2026. The film is currently slated to debut on Dec. 17, 2027, arriving roughly one year after Doomsday launches on Dec. 18, 2026. While Secret Wars can theoretically maintain its original release date, heavy post-production and CGI requirements could make that timeline difficult to achieve. Filming for Doomsday spanned from April to September 2025, wrapping 15 months before its premiere. If Secret Wars follows a similar shooting schedule, production would conclude around June 2027, leaving only six months before the theatrical release.

Marvel has previously begun production within a year of a movie’s release. Spider-Man: Brand New Day filmed from August to December 2025 ahead of its July 27, 2026 debut, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps followed a comparable timeline. Although the scale of Secret Wars presents a unique challenge, Disney likely wants to prevent another postponement. Both Doomsday and Secret Wars were previously delayed from initial release windows of May 1, 2026, and May 27, 2027.

Why is Secret Wars reportedly being delayed?

Disney may be waiting to evaluate box office returns and audience reception for Doomsday before Secret Wars begins filming. Production planning for Doomsday and Secret Wars appears less structured than the previous duology of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The Russo Brothers began directing Doomsday with an incomplete script, drawing on their experience adapting to actors while working on the television show Community. While Spider-Man: Brand New Day achieved phenomenal box office performance, the future of the MCU remains tied to the performance of the upcoming Avengers films.
