The developers have released an update that introduces online multiplayer along with a number of other enhancements.
The ARMSX2 emulator for Android has officially received online multiplayer support — a first for the platform. Releases 1.0.6 and 1.0.7 are already published on GitHub and enable networked matches in several titles, including Battlefield 2: Modern Combat. The team even prepared a detailed video tutorial explaining how to configure the connection.
The developers note that implementing the networking features required “a fair amount of experimentation with the network adapter,” but the outcome exceeded expectations: users can connect to fan-run servers by specifying the correct DNS addresses for each project.
The latest builds also include several improvements, among them:
- support for custom graphics drivers capable of improving performance and image quality;
- a refreshed interface and a built-in driver manager;
- a core based on an up-to-date PCSX2 build;
- an in-app system for submitting game compatibility reports.
ARMSX2 continues to develop as an open-source project and positions itself as a more flexible alternative to AetherSX2 and NetherSX2. Although it currently lags behind competitors in raw speed due to the need to adapt x86 code for the Arm architecture, the team is actively working on performance optimizations.
