Oscar-winning actor Anthony Hopkins has been added to the cast of the film Ibelin, The Hollywood Reporter says.
The project will retell the true story of Norwegian gamer Mats Stina, who died at 25 from muscular dystrophy. His parents later learned that their son was not an isolated recluse but a well-known World of Warcraft player.
Under the username Ibelin, he formed friendships with dozens of gamers across the globe. In 2024 Netflix released the documentary “Ibelin: The Incredible Life of a Gamer,” which received strong praise from critics and audiences.
The film also stars Charlie Plummer, Stephen Graham, Toni Collette, Isabela Merced and Macy Stella. It will be directed by Morten Tyldum (“The Imitation Game”), with a screenplay adapted by Drive writer Hossein Amini alongside Ilaria Bernardini (“Citadel: Diana”).
No official release date for Ibelin has been announced.
