In a recent conversation with Variety, acclaimed filmmaker Sean Baker — the creative force behind the award-winning Anora — shared preliminary details regarding his upcoming project.
“It’s essentially my love letter to the Italian sex comedies of the 1960s and ’70s, so that is the direction I’m leaning. We are aiming to begin production later this year,” Baker noted.
While the cast list and specific plot points remain confidential, anticipation is high following Baker’s previous successes with gritty, authentic features such as The Florida Project, Tangerine, and Red Rocket.
Anora debuted in 2024 to widespread critical acclaim, securing the prestigious Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and going on to win four Academy Awards. The film also saw actor Yura Borisov earn a nomination for his standout performance.
Additionally, Baker’s latest short-form work, Sandiwara, was recently featured as part of the lineup at the Berlin International Film Festival.
