Star Wars Zero Company—the long-awaited tactical project frequently dubbed the "XCOM-style Star Wars game"—has officially secured a release date. Electronic Arts confirmed during Friday’s Summer Game Fest showcase that the title will launch on August 27 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC, validating rumors that had circulated earlier this week.

Oh, and apparently, Anakin Skywalker makes an appearance. Because, why not?

Unveiled back in April 2025, Star Wars Zero Company marks the debut outing for Bit Reactor, a studio formed by industry veterans with deep ties to strategy juggernauts like Civilization and XCOM. That pedigree is evident in the gameplay, which mirrors the structural depth of the XCOM series: players engage in turn-based combat, returning to a sophisticated base of operations between missions to plot their campaign against the Separatist threat. Much like its tactical predecessors, Zero Company ups the stakes with permadeath mechanics, ensuring that if a squad member falls in the heat of battle, they stay down for good.

Set during the chaos of the Clone Wars, the story follows Tesh Hawks, an ex-Galactic Republic officer leading a band of rogue specialists known as "Zero Company." Tasked by the Republic to hunt down an erratic Separatist splinter cell, the crew features a diverse cast—including a Mandalorian and a Jedi Padawan—providing a fresh perspective on the era. The reveal trailer showcased a blend of tactical maneuvers and character management menus, closing with a brief glimpse of General Skywalker igniting his lightsaber, firmly placing the narrative within the pre-Revenge of the Sith timeline.

Beyond the narrative, developers promise a massive scope, with over 150 planets to explore. Players can recruit and customize their own squad of "operators," choosing from seven distinct alien species including Togruta, Twi’lek, and Zabrak. Each character comes with a distinctly "Star Wars" identity; even names like the trailer-featured "Roggar Ven" feel right at home in the galaxy.

Star Wars Zero Company launches on August 27, priced at $49.99 for PC and $59.99 for PS5 and Xbox Series X.
