Amanda Seyfried Wants Sabrina Carpenter and Sydney Sweeney to Sing ABBA with Her in Mamma Mia 3

Amanda Seyfried says she would love to see Sabrina Carpenter and Sydney Sweeney join a hypothetical third Mamma Mia movie. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet at the Governors Awards on November 16, 2025, Seyfried explained her enthusiasm for revisiting Sophie’s story as a mother.

“I love portraying a mom,” Seyfried said, then imagined possible casting scenarios — suggesting Sophie might have relatives or unexpected visitors who could be played by the likes of Sabrina Carpenter or Sydney Sweeney. She added that she’d welcome a lively, sun-soaked reunion with ABBA’s music underscoring the celebration.

Carpenter’s recent trajectory makes her a logical candidate: on November 11, 2025, multiple outlets reported that she signed on to produce and star in Universal Pictures’ Lorene Scafaria–directed musical adaptation of Alice in Wonderland. Before breaking through as a recording artist with songs like “Espresso” and earning six 2026 Grammy nominations for Man’s Best Friend, Carpenter was best known for roles on Disney’s Girl Meets World and films such as The Hate U Give (2018) and Tall Girl (2019).

Sweeney, meanwhile, has just wrapped production on the third season of HBO’s Euphoria and spent the year appearing in films including Echo Valley and Christy — the latter generating some Oscar buzz. On December 19, 2025, she and Seyfried are slated to appear together in Paul Feig’s The Housemaid, a loose adaptation inspired by Freida McFadden’s 2022 novel.

Although a third Mamma Mia installment remains far from confirmed, Seyfried is already imagining the possibilities. She starred in the original 2008 ABBA-themed musical romantic comedy and returned for the 2018 sequel, which went on to gross roughly $400 million worldwide. Judy Craymer — a producer of the stage musical and the films — first indicated work on a third movie in 2020. ABBA member Benny Andersson later described a follow-up as “wishful thinking,” and Craymer reiterated in October 2023 that the project was still under consideration.
