According to reports from The Wall Street Journal, a reboot of the beloved “Alvin and the Chipmunks” franchise is officially in the works.
Paramount is targeting a 2028 release for the new installment. In the lead-up to the premiere, the studio intends to build anticipation through a dedicated social media strategy. Specific details regarding the cast, directors, or other key production personnel have yet to be disclosed.
The Chipmunks originally debuted as a fictional musical trio characterized by their high-pitched, accelerated vocals. Their 1958 novelty hit, “The Witch Doctor,” took the American music charts by storm, eventually paving the way for Alvin, Simon, and Theodore to star in their own animated series in the 1960s.
Between 2007 and 2015, Fox produced four live-action films featuring the trio. While the franchise faced significant criticism from reviewers, the series proved to be a commercial powerhouse, grossing a combined $1.3 billion at the global box office and earning multiple Grammy Awards.
