Alanis Morissette announced during an appearance on Call Her Daddy with Alex Cooper that she and Martin Short are collaborating on a track for her upcoming holiday album.

The pair will record a rendition of a Judy Garland classic. Morissette named the collaboration alongside “What Child Is This” and “Little Drummer Boy” as highlights from the forthcoming project.

Morissette developed her first holiday album from a tradition of recording one Christmas song each year. She noted that she eventually accumulated enough material to assemble a full-length record.

“Every Christmas over the last few years, we’ve done sort of one song,” she told Cooper. “I love singing these songs. I wrote a couple of new songs and we just made a record.”

The album includes original tracks such as “To an Empathic Christmas Time” and “Christmas on the Dance Floor.” Morissette called the release a labor of Christmas love and stated that her enthusiasm for the holiday increased after her son Ever was born on Christmas Day.

Morissette also discussed her upcoming Los Angeles residency, Butterfly With a Machete, which begins in November. The production combines music with storytelling and personal reflections on aging and menopause.

According to Morissette, the residency draws inspiration from pushing back against the expectation that women stay in a single lane. The show incorporates music, comedy, dance, movement, visuals, and storytelling to present multiple facets of her personality.

“It’s about me grappling with the too muchness,” she said, adding that the project provides a space to share stories she previously thought lacked importance.
