The Land of Ooo is consistently abounding with whimsical escapades, but this June, Oni Press and Warner Bros. are collaborating to offer Adventure Time enthusiasts a commemorative release they won’t want to miss. Debuting for Pride Month, Adventure Time Pride Special: PB & MARCY’S INFINITE MIXTAPE #1 is a 40-page celebration—the first of its kind for the franchise—shining a spotlight on the beloved duo, Princess Bubblegum and Marceline the Vampire Queen.
Though their chemistry was palpable throughout the series, the two were officially confirmed as a couple during the series finale, “Come Along With Me.” Since that landmark moment, the fervor for “Bubbline” has only intensified, resulting in several spin-off chronicles that delve deeper into their evolving relationship.
This latest installment is penned by Rosie Knight (Godzilla: Monster Island Summer Camp) with striking illustrations by Evgenia Vereli (Joan Jett & The Blackhearts 40×40). In this heartfelt special, Marceline and Princess Bubblegum celebrate their anniversary by curating a unique, never-before-heard mixtape that serves as a soundtrack to their lives.
“Adventure Time has been central to my creative journey and my appreciation for animation ever since I first discovered Finn, Jake, and BMO on Cartoon Network,” Knight remarked in an interview with Polygon. “Contributing a story to a universe that has been shaped by so many visionary creators is a dream realized. To spearhead an entire issue dedicated to Marceline and Princess Bubblegum is a profound honor. Collaborating with Evgenia has been incredible; she is infusing the story with a level of romance and visual drama that is truly breathtaking.”
Knight further noted that the comic expands upon the show’s legendary musical heritage: “One of the most thrilling aspects of this project was the opportunity to contribute to the show’s musical canon. The title isn’t just for show—readers will actually get to see the girls composing and performing brand-new songs!”
The issue will also feature a stunning array of variant covers from artists Chan, Jaki King, and Mary Ainza.
The enduring bond between Princess Bubblegum and Marceline stands as one of the most significant and treasured examples of LGBTQ+ representation in modern animation. This new special serves as a gift to the fans who have long championed these characters and their journey together.
