A New Version of “Free Willy” Is in the Works in Hollywood

Warner Bros. is moving forward with a reboot of the beloved eco-drama “Free Willy,” according to recent reports.

The iconic 1993 original starred Jason James Richter as an orphaned boy determined to rescue a captive orca named Willy from a local amusement park. The film was a massive commercial success, grossing over $150 million globally and spawning a franchise that included two sequels and an animated series.

This new iteration is being penned by Mary Margaret Kunz and Jade Bartlett, the writing duo behind the controversial film “Miller’s Girl.” The project will be produced by Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors known for their work on “The Avengers,” under their AGBO banner. At present, details regarding the plot, casting, and official release date remain under wraps.
