Microsoft is doubling down on its support for the ROG Xbox Ally X. At GDC 2026, the company revealed that the handheld is scheduled to receive Auto SR (Automatic Super Resolution) in April 2026.
This AI-driven technology intelligently lowers the rendering resolution to boost frame rates before upscaling the image to maintain high-definition visual fidelity.
Early demonstrations using Forza Horizon 5 showcased performance gains of up to 30% when the device was in docked mode. Developers emphasized that this feature is exclusive to the ROG Xbox Ally X, as it utilizes the integrated NPU specifically designed to handle AI workloads. Consequently, the standard ROG Xbox Ally will not support this update.
Microsoft anticipates that Auto SR will allow gamers to extract maximum power from their portable hardware. While real-world benchmarks will vary based on specific titles and user settings, the update promises to be a transformative upgrade rather than a mere iterative patch.
