«21 Jump Street» officially gets a third installment
Sony has officially confirmed that it is developing a third entry in the hit comedy franchise “21 Jump Street” (titled “24 Jump Street”), according to media reports.
The lead duo, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, are set to reprise their iconic roles alongside Ice Cube. Rodney Rothman, who contributed to the script for “22 Jump Street,” has been tapped to direct. Meanwhile, previous directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will shift their focus to producing the upcoming film.
Plans for a potential third movie were first hinted at by Lord back in 2019. At one point, a female-led spin-off was also in the works, though that project was ultimately scrapped.
The “Jump Street” franchise is inspired by the classic television series of the same name, which originally starred Johnny Depp. The films follow the comedic exploits of undercover partners Jenko and Schmidt. The first movie debuted in 2012, followed by a sequel in 2014, with the two films collectively grossing over $550 million at the global box office.
