YouTuber PewDiePie explained why he no longer considers gaming a “valuable” way to spend time

Felix Kjellberg, better known as PewDiePie, said that his gaming chapter is largely behind him. After more than a decade of producing gaming videos, he no longer considers playing games to be the most worthwhile way to spend his time.

The 36-year-old creator has recently concentrated on documenting life in Japan with his wife Marzia and their son Björn. He still dips into lighter titles like GeoGuessr or Poppy Playtime from time to time, but marathon 10-hour gaming sessions are a thing of the past.

In his newsletter, Kjellberg explained that becoming a father has completely changed how he values time:

Ever since I became a parent, everything is seen through a different lens. Every hour feels precious. If I wanted to, I could still find time to play — I’ve simply chosen to spend those hours on other things.

He went on to say he used to devote too much time to YouTube and gaming instead of cultivating other skills:

My priorities have shifted — I’m focused on learning. Time isn’t infinite, so I opt to spend it on what I find meaningful, and the audience response has backed that choice.

PewDiePie isn’t abandoning gaming entirely: in 2025 he backed the Stop Killing Games initiative, urging studios not to shut down online games once official support ends.
