Yorgos Lanthimos to Take a Career Break

Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster) has announced that he plans to step back and take a break from his creative work.

Over the past three years the filmmaker has released three features: Poor Things, Kinds of Kindness and Bugonia.

“I can’t keep doing this [laughs]. I think I need a break. I said something similar between my last three films, but this time I’m serious. You can be sure of that,” Lanthimos told Collider.

Bugonia, starring Emma Stone, opened in U.S. theaters this week. The film is a remake of the 2003 Korean sci‑fi Save the Green Planet! and competed at the Venice Film Festival, where it was met with generally positive reviews from critics.
